I - Introduction

The team is formulated after a detail briefing conducted on June 4, 2003 by the managing director of ETC on the following critical focus points identified by the corporation:

  • System reengineering

  • Leadership management restructuring

  • Infrastructure accountability

  • Business/market development

  • Human resource, research and development

  • Technology overhauling

This team is organized to take part in the execution of some of these key focus points, particularly technology overhauling and business/market development.

II - Tasks

The team is assigned the following two major tasks:

Network Solution design

The team strongly shares the need for ETC to separately handle service requirements from corporate and institutional customers from that of small scale and individual requirements. It will be expected to provide integrated solutions to corporate customers, government institutions, etc.

Based on customer requirements and existing/upcoming ETC infrastructure, the team will provide the appropriate solution to those customers by working hand in hand with counter parts from the relevant institutions. The team will study existing network, work in coordination with ETC sections and staff, understand fully what best solution can be provided to the customer.

With information obtained through study of both ETC’s capacity and customer requirements, the team will propose, if required, future network/technology expansion/introduction.

Technology Convergence

It is a world wide and unavoidable trend to move to next generation networks and technologies.

The team observes the following tasks should be carried out:

  • Study and audit the existing network

  • Understand next generation networks and technologies

  • Set convergence strategy

  • Prepare migration plan for ETC

In this regard, the team will engage in the following activities as part of the technology-overhauling endeavor.

The team will organize and stack a resource center for itself. The resource center will have databases and resources on technology, standards, vendors, solutions, policies, regulations, relevant local content, etc. The resources to be organized will be in different formats: electronic, magazines, journals, books, www, etc.

The team will serve as a catalyst in the initiation, coordination, and realization of national and international seminars and conferences. The themes of these events will be on new technologies, telecom solutions, network security solutions, etc. In this effort, the team will use all available means to make the events informative and helpful in decision making for ETC.

The team recognizes the importance of such events in creating awareness both within the organization and the country at large. The customary vendor-driven information gathering will be changed to one in which many competing technologies will be presented to ETC. On the same platform, ETC’s services will be promoted.
